Cheap Tickets Canada Helps Kids Read
Victoria, BC / October 7, 2009 - Cheap Tickets Canada assisted in
Canwest's 2009 “Raise-a-Reader” fundraiser which is forecast to have raised 2 million dollars towards child literacy projects in Canada. With 240,000 raised in Victoria where their headquarters are located, Cheap Tickets Canada.com was excited to participate in this worthwhile project for the third year in a row.
“Cheap Tickets Canada.com has focused on promoting projects which encourage literacy development in Canadians of all ages. We realize that literacy is the building block in enabling families and individuals to be self-sufficient and more confident” says Normand Schafer, Cheap Tickets Canada.com's President.
Fundraiser volunteers on the Cheap Tickets Canada team included staff members and homeschool students who sold newspapers in exchange for donations to literacy programs.
To see how important the needs for improving literacy in Canada are, one can look at the Canadian Council on Learning's recently released
interactive online literacy map. This map provides an in-depth look at literacy levels in the various regions and municipalities around Canada.
