Literacy Project - April 2004
Cheap Tickets and Travel (also know as Cheap Tickets Canada.com) is proud to contribute to the Prospect Lake School Library as part of our “Literacy Campaign”. Cheap Tickets has targeted literacy as its primary social programs to support. We believe that by increasing literacy in our families, community and country we are giving our children some of the basic tools they will need during their lifetime. We also feel that by encouraging literacy at a young age, we are able to have a greater impact on a child's ability to learn and read well.
ABC Canada, a Canadian literacy organization reports, “While the performance of the three western provinces is relatively better than in other regions of the country, four out of 10 people in those provinces still fall in the low-literacy range”.
To kick off our literacy campaign we have printed over 15,000 colourful bookmarks. These bookmarks are simple, yet they encourage childhood imagination and the desire to read. We encourage each one of you to do your part to help young Canadians read. It is our hope that by making a contribution to libraries and other literacy projects, that we will be able to help empower our local youngsters for the future by encouraging them to read more and to read better.
