Packing Tips

Passengers should check in early for their flights in case of unexpected delays. Depending on the airport and airline the suggested arrival time will vary and can be up to three hours prior to your scheduled departure time.

Here are some packing tips to help speed your luggage through the screening process at the airport.

1. Keep valuables including cameras in carry on baggage.
2. Put personal belongings in clear plastic bags to reduce the chance that a screener will have to handle them. Liquids should also be placed in less than full plastic bottles before being placed in a sealed plastic bag.
3. Pack shoes, boots, sneakers and other footwear on top of other contents in your luggage.
4. Avoid over-packing your bag so that the screener will be able to easily reseal it if it is opened for inspection.
5. Avoid packing food and drink items in checked baggage. The density of some food products like cheese or chocolate can trigger a false reading.
6. Don’t stack piles of books or documents on top of each other; spread them out within your baggage.
7. Wait to wrap your gifts, be aware that wrapped gifts may have to be opened for inspection.
8. Consider keeping bags unlocked or secure them with plastic ties. In the event that a Screener needs to open your baggage as part of the screening process some locks may have to be broken.
9. Put identification tags including your name, phone number and address both in and on all your baggage including your lap top computer. For added security use a business address on luggage tags.
10. Consider traveling with fewer valuables or put your valuables in carry-on luggage.
11. Place a unique bright marking on your luggage so that it is easily identifiable.
12. Make multiple copies of your passport. Leave a copy at home, in your luggage or in a travel companion’s bag. Switch a few items in your suitcase with those of a traveling companion in case your luggage goes missing.
We hope these tips will help make your travel plans simpler and hassle free.
