Cheap Tickets Canada.com Helps with Literacy
Victoria, BC / September 25, 2008 – Cheap Tickets Canada.com is pleased to have made front page news in the Victoria Times Colonist due to it's continued support of Canwest's Raise-a-Reader campaign.
"We are pleased to have assisted in sponsoring Canwest's Raise-a-Reader program for a second year by hawking newspapers on downtown city streets. My kids also enjoy coming out each year to see how much they can help raise for literacy. It's great to be a part of raising over half a million dollars on Vancouver Island though this worthwhile project." reports company President, Normand Schafer.
The Raise-a-Reader program is only one of the many literacy programs Cheap Tickets Canada.com has supported over the years. Recently Cheap Tickets Canada.com helped sponsor the Victoria Times Colonist's book drive where over 100,000 books were collected, sold and donated to schools in order to raise funds and awareness for nationwide literacy efforts. These literacy projects will benefit people of all ages.
Literacy is still a major problem. According to ABC Canada's "Canadians with the lowest literacy skills have higher rates of unemployment (26 per cent) and those with the highest skills have lower rates of unemployment (4 per cent)".
In its continuing efforts Cheap Tickets Canada produces bookmarks encouraging people to "Read It. Dream It. Live It." These bookmarks are available for download on the Cheap Tickets Canada.com website and to literacy groups across Canada upon request.
