June 1, 2009 – Day 4

After driving through the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains we made a stop in Banff.

We needed to get out and stretch a bit and the kids were a bit tired of being cooped up in our RV. They were only too happy to get our and walk around this tourist town. Every third store seemed to be a candy or ice cream shop of some type. I guess that's what happens when a town is build specifically for tourism. As a result we stopped for a special treat when we visited Welch's candy shop which not only displayed an impressive PEZ collection on the walls but also had thousands of types...

June 1, 2009 – Day 3

In the morning I was a bit beside myself. We have been tracking our locations as we drive with our GPS Data Logger from GPSCentral.ca. We scoured through the motorhome and enlisted the help of everyone. We searched high and low without any luck. We looked where I last remembered seeing it, checked under beds, blankets and tables. We just could not find it anywhere! Just as we were all about to give up I had a thought that ran a sense of frustration through me. I slowly reached down to my belt and felt for the data logger that was clipped to the side of my belt....

31 May 2009 – Day 2

Being a Sunday we took a break in the morning to attend a local church. We have not only found this to be a great Sunday morning activity but also a great way to meet local people in the areas we visit. We plan to do this whenever possible.

It was a late departure by the time we left at around 1:30 pm considering we wanted to travel at least 6 hours. We drove through the lower mainland and up the Coquahalla Highway (which is no longer a toll highway) to Kamloops before heading East along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Victoria and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia

Victoria, British Columbia

Day 1
Mile 0 is a popular first or last stop for any adventure that is set to cross Canada. Our adventure was no different as we parked in front of the Trans-Canada Highway's “Mile 0” marker across from the Pacific Ocean.

A visit to Victoria is not complete without a visit to the beautiful public Beacon Hill Gardens. As always our kids are drawn to the water ponds. I don't know what it is about water and kids but the water is like a magnet that draws the kids to its shores... sometimes a little too close......

Some people think we are a bit crazy to venture out on a 17,000 km Family Motorhome Adventure with our 6 homeschooled children ranging in ages from 1 to 14. But that is nothing new. I'm used to the stares that I get in the store as people's mouths gape open as they watch me march in with my wonderful kids. The inevitable question is always, “Are they all yours?”

Our Canada and USA adventure is simply an extension of our adventurous life that takes us to places around the world. This time however we are focusing on the amazing place that Canada is. Not only...
