Will my RV fit under this Boston Overpass?

Posted 01-04-2010 at 04:02 PM by Norm (Norm's Travels)

I didn't realize the excitement I was getting myself into when I decided I was going to drive a thirty-one foot long motor-home into Boston. I had been to other busy cities so this should be no problem. The size and height of my RV however proved to give me a hair raising experience than I had least expected. One that not only stressed me and my entire family out, but one that left us with no desire to see the historical sights of Boston. Within half an hour I squeezed through enough of Boston to last me a lifetime.

I got lost after entering an underground tunnel that was taking me into the centre of Boston. This tunnel went on forever and had 6 exits with unfamiliar names. Being underground my GPS did not work well as it simply...

Foghorn and Mosquitoes

Posted 06-24-2009 at 12:36 PM by Alyssa (Alyssa's Blog)

June 23, Tuesday 2009 DAY 32

Today we woke up to the sound of dad making a loud “HONK!” noise. Apparently, Teyauna, my one year old sister, was pressing her nose saying “beep bee beep” and was being replied by mom with her own beeps when dad decided to join in. His excuse is that he doesn't know how to do soft beep beeps, so he decided on a resounding “HONK!” that woke the whole family and scared Teyauna who quickly hid behind mom and wouldn't come out until she decided that it would be fun to do it again. Crawling back over to his side of the bed she did her “bee beep” thing which resulted in yet another foghorn wake up call........
At around 12:30, we arrived at what we thought was a little info center, but turned...

Marine Land

Posted 06-24-2009 at 12:31 PM by Alyssa (Alyssa's Blog)

June 6, Saturday 2009 DAY 15

I Finally got a warm shower today! We stopped at an RV park, so we were able to plug in and get water and all that. We haven't been having warm showers lately 'cause one of the valves in the water pipes had been switched the wrong way, making it impossible for warm water to come out. But we fixed it!

Later

Marine Land was pretty fun, but more for 10 years old on down. But there were some good rides like the Sky Screamer, even if everything was quite spread out. The dolphin and sea otter show was really good! They had all kinds of things that they got them to do, like flips and singing for the dolphins and dancing as well as acting for the sea otters.

Winnipeg's Man Eating Mosquitoes Myth

Posted 06-15-2009 at 07:14 AM by Kirsten (Kirsten's Blog)

We received mixed reactions when we told people of our planned stop in Manitoba's capitol city. The typical warning I heard was that I would be surprised by the friendliness of the GIANT mosquitoes. Although these notorious creatures never seemed to materialize we did find the locals extremely friendly and felt very welcomed.

We met a local man who pointed out a quiet safe parking lot. He returned later in the night to chat with us and find out what we were doing. He was fascinated with our idea and by morning he had helped arrange two radio interviews and two TV programs.
Needless to say this media...

Camping with Kids

June 7
After a week on the road I can honestly say traveling in an RV is camping! After a few nights in various over lit parking lots and rest areas situated next to busy train stations we have started looking for quiet church parking lots.

These seem to be safe, semi dark and are usually in decent neighborhoods. We planned to camp at RV places but so far we have been driving so late that we just need to pull up and find a quick place to park in the middle of the night.
This morning Alyssa and I put our foot down and refused to step foot inside the church without...
