I was in Japan at this time last year, people are very welcoming, always trying to help. It is easy to find affordable rooms in Osaka area.

I travelled around Japan on three different holidays I have found the cheapest places to stay are ryokans, or bed and breakfasts. The web site I used to book all of my accomodations is the Japan Welcome Inn Reservation centre. International Tourism Center of Japan

You should have no problem finding cheap accomodations probably between $40-60 per night.
