Suggestions for Calgary:
the Glenbow Museum, which includes a children's section and is a wonderful "story" of the settling of the West, with a section devoted to heroes and artifacts like Charles Dickens' son's sword (I think) he used when part of the Northwest Mounted Police.
The Famous Five Monument, across from Jack Singer Theatre in downtown Calgary. (Identical monument now on Parliament Hill.) These were five women from Alberta who took their case---that women were "persons" under the British North America Act---to Britain's Privy Council. They'd lost in Canada's Supreme Court and in the 20s, the Privy Council was still the last court of resort. The Privy Council said women were, indeed, persons. The five women are one and a half times life size. It's a stirring sight.
